apple sent a tech out to investigate and replaced it with the newly released mac pro. I had a new G5 mac once that caught on fire the third year i had it. I have never regretted paying that much for a mac because they can be used for a long time, though if i pay for that much for an upgrade, i would like to have a significant performance improvement.

apple made the silver huge mac pros too well and if you had one, there was not a lot of reason to upgrade to the trashcan unless you needed thunderbolt.Įven the trash can macs are upgradable with new processors.

they said they were going to update the mac pro, but i think the imac pro will be it. and the thing is, the new mac often only offer a 10 to 20% increase in performance which with audio and cores, one may not even see., apple is supposed to release an imac pro soon. I am not sure what the term is for the hacked macs, but many have taken the 2006 - 2012 mac pros and put 12 cores in them, changed vid cards, and installed some system hacks and firmware mods to get it all to work. Whoever spends 5k on a computer probably has enough money to buy another after 5 years though, the trashcan is not exactly the average-Joe computer.

Then again I am a tinkerer and I'm not really scared of messing around with stuff, I understand for less technologically inclined people this might be scary.

I would just patch the OS installer and install it, no big deal. Old Mac Pros with upgrades are still real Macs, they still run on with the official motherboard and require no custom bootloader, changing the CPU definitely doesn't make it a Hackintosh because only compatible ones can be used.Īpple usually drops support with the excuse that the hardware is not powerful enough for the latest OS and the Trashcan Mac is still a beast of a machine to this day, if they do that then the few people who bought it (it was one of Apple's biggest flops) will be pissed. (I am an avid Hackintosh user for a few years now) these are very expensive computer upgrades.Ĭlick to expand. What? Either I misunderstood what you said or you're mistaken about what's a Hackintosh. when, not if, apple drops support for 2011 and earlier macs late next year, it will be an issue. the same is true of all NI products when they change the version.Īlso, on the mac side, there are some who have hackingtosh macs that they took early mac pros and put 12 cores in them, after 10.11 is dropped from support, they would not be able to use the latest version.

now there is a reason why you have to keep earlier versions, for example if you used kontakt 4 in your cubase project, it will not open that in kontakt 5, you will need to have kontakt 4 still installed and save it as a kontakt file and then open that in 5 in a new or updated track. in this case, 5.66 is the last version you can add libraries and i have legacy eastwest NI products that require that that may not be able to use native access, so i have to keep the standalone version of 5.66 archived, though this may be fixed now with native access. I usually have the latest version of kontakt installed since i use in mainly in vst form and you can always keep the previous version if you need it later.
